16 Location You Can Find Glo 4G LTE In Nigeria

Glo is still doing their possible best to make sure their 4G coverage covers all the states and cities in Nigeria. Glo is one of the cheapest data provider in NIGERIA, no doubt but the current problem is their poor 3G network. Aside that, Glo is really good as they offer affordable and overload data plans for everyone to enjoy.

Though, before you can use Glo 4G LTE service, your smartphone must be 4G LTE enabled, and also must support Glo 4G LTE band. See more.


Not quite long they unveiled their 4G LTE service which the coverage is limited to some states in Nigeria. Today, the uplifting news is that, 16 more locations / cities in Nigeria now have Glo 4G LTE services and this areas can be found within Lagos, Abuja, Rivers, and Ogun state.

4G LTE Supported Bands In Nigeria Networks Glo, MTN, Etisalat, nTel

Glo, MTN, and Etisalat recently launched their 4G LTE service in Nigeria. Of course, this isn’t the first time GLO announced a 4G LTE service, but certainly the first time we got to see it active in Nigeria.
With the inception of 4G LTE connectivity being the norm lately, it’s only ideal to use devices that supports the network 4G LTE bands.
Unfortunately, while most smartphones comes equipped with 4G LTE bands, some of these GSM network operator supports different bands. Bands that your rather sophisticated smartphone may not support.

Hence, we are breaking down the 4G LTE carrier bands for each of the telecommunication company operating in Nigeria. Specifically Glo, MTN, Etisalat and nTel.

GLO, MTN, Etisalat, nTel 4G LTE Bands

Glo 4G LTE Band

As earlier stated, this isn’t the first time GLO announced a 4G LTE network connectivity. The first time was actually in 2011 but that never came to limelight. At least, not until recently.
Globacom currently offers the cheapest data plans compared to other GSM operators. Not only on it’s regular 2G/3G network mode, but also on it’s 4G network mode.
However, GLO only supports a 4G band that’s not so common on smartphones currently in the market. Most of the recently launched sophisticated Android smartphones do not support the band 28 (700MHz). Which in my opinion, is a bit of a turn off.
How to use GLO 4G LTE connectivity
To use the GLO 4G LTE network connectivity, you will need to swap your SIM card for a 4G positioned SIM. What this means is, your rather existing glo SIM cannot connect to the network’s 4G mode except you use a 4G ready SIM.
And in other to get the SIM, you need to visit any GLO outlet. Thereafter, you can subscribe to any of the network 4G data plans by dialing *777# and following the onscreen instructions.

MTN 4G LTE Bands

Compared to other GSM operators in the country, MTN was the first to officially rolled out 4G LTE connectivity. Of course, this was months after the service was launched in Cameroon amongst other countries.
Thankfully, MTN 4G supports band 20 (800MHz) and Band 7 (2600MHz). Most sophisticated Android phones supports any of those bands. Remember, I used the word ‘most‘. Even the iPhone 6 from 2014 can utilize MTN’s 4G network.
The telecommunication company also made it easy for existing 4G smartphone users to confirm if their smartphone can actually work with the network’s 4G mode.
How To use MTN 4G LTE connectivity network
Just before anything else, you should confirm if your current 4G supported phone supports MTN 4G network. In other to do this, simply send 4G to 131 and a confirmation will be sent to you.
If your phone is supported, you would need to visit an MTN outlet and thereafter, swap your current existing SIM for a 4G LTE supported SIM.

Etisalat 4G LTE bands

Etisalat is the latest GSM operator to join the 4G LTE revolution in Nigeria. Of course, the telecom’s 4G network has been existing in a few other country.
Etisalat 4G LTE supports band 3 (1800MHz) and most smartphones, including the Tecno Camon C9, support band 3. Therefore, if you own the tecno camon c9, you should be able to use Etisalat 4G LTE service on your smartphone. Of course, that is if you are within the supported region.
How to use Etisalat 4G LTE network
Compared to other GSM operators in Nigeria, using Etisalat 4G LTE is quite easy. You don’t necessarily need to swap your current SIM for a 4G position one.
Simply get a phone that supports 4G band 3, be in a supported location, subscribe to a 4G data plan, and you are good to go.

How To Check Your Smartphone 4G LTE Bands And Frequencies Via MobileUncle Tools.apk

3G service is becoming a thing of the past as 4G LTE service is fully running in Nigeria. The 4G LTE providers in Nigeria has their own frequency bands. Inorder to enjoy the 4G LTE service, you need a 4G LTE enabled phone that support the 4G band of your network(s).




It's not just buying or owning a 4G LTE enabled smartphone but having the 4G smartphone that support your network 4G Band. To be frank with you guys, i was totally very disappointed that my phone doesn't support Glo 4G Band 28(700). Not just my phone but many MTK phones we have here in Nigeria.

It is very important for you to know which Bands your smartphone supports so you can know which network 4G LTE service that is compatible with your phone. This is a wonderful tutorial and it's very easy. Kindly follow me step after steps.

The major networks in Nigeria that currently have the 4G LTE service are Glo, MTN and Etisalat. (We are expecting Airtel to launch their own 4G LTE service soon). Other 4G LTE operators in Nigeria includes Swift, Ntel, Smile and Spectranet. Most of the 4G LTE enabled smartphones in Nigeria uses band 3, 4, 7, 20, 28. or 40.


Before i continue, checkout below 4G LTE Bands of the 4G operators we currently have in Nigeria.

MTN 4G LTE supports band 20 (800MHz) and Band 7 (2600MHz)
Glo 4G LTE supports band 28 (700MHz)
Etisalat 4G LTE supports band 3 (1800MHz)
NTEL 4G LTE supports band 8 (900MHz) and Band 3 (1800MHz)
Spectranet and Swift supports band 40 (2300mhz)
Smile supports band 20 (800mhz)


There you have it all. It is said that the lower frequencies tend to perform more better in rural areas with good coverage while the bands with higher frequencies is said to be opposite, but there'll also be a good coverage when the areas are populated with users. I won't be diving more into the technical part of it cos that's not why i made this post. But take this, whatever frequency your desired 4G service is, you will get a good download and upload speed. Downloading a file of 1GB won't take more than 5minutes and that's the fact.




Now, to the main reason of this post, i will teach you how to easily check the Bands your smartphone supports using Mobile Uncle or MTK Engineering. But, we'll be using MobileUncle Tools.

How To Check Your 4G LTE Network Bands of Your Smartphone via Mobile Uncle Tools

This steps is for Android MTK phones only. If your Android phone runs on MediaTek (MTK) processor, then continue along with me.

=> Download MobileUncle Tools.apk Here


=> Install and launch the app
=> Tap on Engineer Mode => Engineer Mode (MTK)
=> Under Telephony, tap on BandMode
=> Select Sim 2 or Sim 1. (Make sure you are able to scroll down after you select your SIM)
=> Now, scroll down to LTE Mode.
=> You will see a list of band modes





If you cannot tick the band 28 check box or if it's not ticked, then, you can't use Glo 4G LTE service.

If you cannot tick the band 3 check box or if it's not ticked, then, you can't use Etisalat 4G LTE service.

If you are not able tick band 20 or 7 check box or if it's not ticked, then, your phone is not supported for MTN 4G LTE service.

If you use Ntel and you can’t tick band 8 or band 3 or if both bands are not ticked, then, your smartphone has no support for Ntel network.

My phone supports all the 4G networks Band except Glo 4G which is a Big F**k up. Before you buy any 4G phone, make sure you check out the specs to confirm if it supports your preferred 4G network band if not all. At least, mine is cool, it support all my favorite networks 4G Band except Glo 4G service. One of the most annoying thing some of you might likely face is to think that your smartphone is 4G supported only to discover that it is 100% 3G Mobile phone.

How Do I know That My Mobile is 4G Supported?
With 4G mobile networks in mind, it’s easy to know if your smartphone supports the standard. On Android smartphones, Blackberry, iPhones and Windows mobile devices.

Android
For Android Users, go to settings > Network settings > mobile network. It should give you a dropdown menu of mobile standards such as 2G, 3G or LTE (4G). If you don’t see 4G or LTE, then your smartphone doesn’t support the standard.


iPhone
On the iPhone, go to Settings > General > cellular > Enable 4G LTE.

Windows
On Windows Phone, go to Settings > Celluar + Sim > Highest connection speed and check if LTE is part of the options.

Blackberry
Go to settings>Network and Connection>Mobile Network> Network mode and you’ll see 4G&3G&2G. however, if you are using Blackberry Q5 and below, you won’t get 4G network services.

Once you’ve selected LTE and you’ve on a 4G network, the “LTE” symbol will appear on the phone status bar replacing either “3G”, “H” or “2G” symbols.

I must sincerely congratulate Glo for this move, they may be slow like snail but they are moving. The only complain I’m expecting to see onward from you is that your Glo 10GB data doesn’t last a week because the speed will blow the data away.
